How incredible. What has happened to our country and worst of all our health care system. I have been a nurse for 31 years and although technology has helped improve our practice, it certainly has not affected our caring philosplhy for the better.
Why are our Doctors going to different countries to help those who have cataracts and terrible orthopedic or neurological disabilities. Because they get press and attention. Why don't they use the same resources and go to our Southern states. This makes me very ashamed.

First I want to say that parasites can come from fresh fruit and vegetables. They can even come from a pet. There is a connection between Cancer and parasites. Parasites weaken the system so that any thing can invade your body when it is at it's weakest. Don't think only the poor have parasites. I bet most of Americans have some sort of parasite from the air or the water. Check it out and you will see that this is true.

I think it's outrageous that we in the USA have the money, skills, and ability to help the poor and unprivilaged in this country, but so much of our money and manpower is now overseas trying "help" those in other countries. What a shame that our government doesn't invest that kind of energy in its own people!

Our gov't has invested more than you know for virus and infectious deseases. The figure of 4 trillion dollars is actually an underestimate if we are talking about welfare and other programs. (more like 20 trillion over 30 years).
The point of this article is not political, but how parasites invade rich/poor people.

Anybody ever heard of dewormer? They make it for people too not just animals. Maybe it is the field I work in but I have dewormed my boys on a couple of occassions. Once my 2 yr old who has always slept thru the night started waking up at the same time every night and screaming his head off, within a couple of days of "deworming" him all was back to normal. We are very clean people but lets face it kids are disgusting. No matter how hard you try you can not keep them from putting everything they shouldn't in their mouth. This is of particular importance to people who have pets, listen to your vets! They aren't just interested in taking your money they have your health in mind as well when they recommend heartworm preventatives on a monthly basis for your pets. These meds also prevent many of the intestinal parasites that are considered zoonotic threats.
